What the desktop app gives you#

The desktop app takes Ohana360 out of a browser tab and gives it its own window and its own Dock icon on your Mac. It runs the live platform inside: it is not a separate build, every update is there the moment it ships, and your data is exactly the same as on the web.

Download and install#

  1. Open ohana360.com/desktop.
  2. Download the DMG with the Download for macOS button.
  3. Open the DMG and drag the app into your Applications folder.
  4. On first launch, right-click the app and choose Open. Because the build is distributed outside the App Store, macOS asks for confirmation once; after that it opens normally.

Requirements: a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 12 or later. A Windows build is not out yet; until then Ohana360 runs fully in the browser.

Signing in#

The app opens the same login screen as the web. Once you sign in, your session is remembered securely on this device, so you do not retype your password on every launch. Your records, settings and automations are in the same org: a change you make in the app shows up in the browser immediately.

The menu bar icon#

The app puts an icon in your Mac's menu bar. Its menu offers: Show Ohana360, New Task, Home, ToDo Board, Calendar, Chat, Notifications, Refresh and Quit. The Notifications and ToDo Board rows carry live counts, so you can see what is waiting from the menu bar even while the app sits in the background.

Shortcuts#

ShortcutWhat it does
Command + 1 ... Command + 9Switches apps, in app launcher order
Command + RRefreshes the page
Command + WHides the window; the app keeps living in the menu bar and returns from its icon

All the web shortcuts work unchanged: G then a letter for utility bar panels, E to edit on a record page, Escape to close and Command + K for the command palette. See the utility bar and keyboard shortcuts.

Known limits#

  • The My Domain redirect does not apply. In a browser you are moved to your org's subdomain; the desktop shell stays on the main address. This is deliberate and does not affect your data: same org, same permissions, same records.
  • External links open in your system browser. When you click an outside address from inside the app (a payment page, the Help Center, WhatsApp), it opens in your default browser. Invoice and quote printing, on the other hand, appears in a print preview inside the app.
  • Notifications come from the menu bar. The desktop shell does not use browser notifications; your pending notification and task counts are in the menu bar icon's menu. If you want push on your phone, use the mobile app (see mobile use).
  • macOS only. A Windows build is on the way.

If it hangs on the loading screen#

Rarely, the app can sit on the splash screen. A built-in guard tries to resolve this on its own:

  1. If nothing has loaded after eight seconds, the app refreshes itself once.
  2. If the second attempt hits the same wall, the guard clears the cache and tries again. Most cases end here.
  3. On a third attempt the screen shows "Loading is stuck, click to refresh"; click it or press Command + R.

If it persists, quit the app completely with Quit in the menu bar icon and open it again. Logging into the same org from a browser and confirming the data arrives immediately separates an app problem from an account problem.

Tip: Keep the app in your Dock and get used to closing it with Command + W: the window closes but the app stays in the menu bar, so the next open is instant.
