The record page: details, activity, files, posts

A record's whole story on one page: stage path, detail card, related records, timeline, Chatter and action buttons.

Anatomy of the page

Clicking a record opens its record page. Typical sections:

  • Header: The record's name, number and quick action buttons (Edit, Delete, object-specific actions).
  • Stage path: On stateful objects (Opportunity, Case, Case File...) the steps of the process; click to change stage.
  • Details card: All fields; inline editing via the pencil icon.
  • Related records: For example an Account's Contacts, Opportunities and Cases in their own tables.

Right-column cards

Admins decide which cards appear under Setup > Page Layouts.

Action buttons

Some objects have one-click, state-aware action buttons: for example Convert on a Lead (turns it into Account + Contact + Opportunity). Custom process-triggering buttons can be added too. Buttons appear only when they make sense.

Inline editing and conflict protection

Edit fields without leaving the page. If two people work at the same time, the system merges changes safely; no update is ever silently lost, and you get an honest warning when needed.

Tip: Instead of leaving notes in the timeline, write in Chatter and @mention the right person; it stays on the record and sends a notification.
